Charlotte Harbor Florida
One amazing place that boaters love to explore year after year is the second largest bay in the state, Charlotte Harbor Florida. This harbor covers over 270 square miles in Charlotte and Lee Counties and the natural estuary covers over 4800 square miles making it the second largest estuary in the state as well.
Charlotte Harbor Estuary is a bar-built estuary. These small islands are sand bars that formed and separated the bay from the surrounding water. This creates brackish water where salt water from the ocean and fresh water from the surrounding rivers mix. One of these rivers, the Peace River, is another opportunity to explore something unique that only Charlotte Harbor has to offer.
The sand bars that built this harbor also creates a natural habitat for many wildlife species. Some of the animals that call Charlotte Harbor Estuary home are Sea Turtles, Manatees, Alligators, and Bald Eagles making this area some of the best for those looking for a nature encounter unlike any other.
Whether you choose to charter a private boat to explore the harbor, sail up Peace River, or take a day trip out to the barrier islands for some fun and relaxation you will always find something new to explore here in Charlotte Harbor.
